Key Stage 3 (Programme Of Study)
In Year 7 pupils will undertake a programme of study based on National Curriculum guidelines. The course is taught through assignments which enable pupils to respond to the natural and man-made environment. Each project aims to develop pupils’ use of a visual language: i.e. shape, pattern, texture, tone, line and form. The projects will involve a variety of approaches including painting, drawing, print-making and 3-dimensional work. Particular emphasis will be given to working from direct observation, developing research skills and confidence in the use of 2D and 3D media. Opportunities to study the work of artists and cultures are an integral part of the course. All pupils develop imagery using worksheets which ares used in class and for homework. Homework is set on a regular basis. Work is assessed as the project progresses. Specialist materials are provided. However, the pupils will be expected to bring basic equipment: this should include a pencil, a rubber, a pencil sharpener and an apron or an old shirt

In Year 9 the pupils will undertake a programme of study guided by the National Curriculum requirements. The work concentrates on the development of confidence and skills in the use of materials and developing ideas. Projects are based on the themes of portraiture, natural forms and movement. Students develop ideas and images on a worksheet format which helps them to review the progress of their work. Students are encouraged to become increasingly independent in the development of their ideas. Research skills are developed even further.
Homework is set on a regular basis. The pupils' work is assessed each term, and at the end of Year 9 an end of Key Stage 3 statement is issued summarising each pupil's attainment in Art.
Specialist materials are provided. However, the pupils will be expected to provide basic equipment: this should include a pencil, a rubber, a pencil sharpener and an apron or an old shirt.

Key Stage 4
In Art and Design the students will have the opportunity to work in a number of areas including painting, drawing, print-making, ceramics and 3D mixed-media sculpture. Students will be able to develop their personal interests and ideas, and study the work of artists and crafts-people. Work based on visits to major exhibitions and galleries is an important part of Year 10.
