DramaDrama
Key Stage 3
Drama is an important component in our curriculum for Year 7 pupils. Our aim is to encourage the pupils to work and co-operate with each other, establishing successful working relationships whilst enjoying the acquisition of dramatic skills and developing self-confidence and communication abilities. They will be helped to develop skills of observation, listening, performing and evaluating. Themes which will be covered in lessons will include 'Introduction to Drama', 'School', and 'Melodrama'. Homework tasks will be set when appropriate. In addition, all pupils will be offered the chance to work with the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Year 8 Drama has been designed to develop the communication and performance skills introduced in Year 7. The course also aims to broaden the pupils’ understanding of dramatic forms and styles, including Forum Theatre and Promenade Theatre. Issues relating to Citizenship are also explored in units of work such as ‘Family and Responsibility’.
Key Stage 4
Pupils will be introduced to all aspects of the theatre, both on and off stage. They will develop a range of dramatic skills including developing character, improvisation and script work. Pupils will study a variety of theatre styles through script work, research and practical exploration. Homework will be set when necessary and will include evaluation of work completed and reviews of plays seen.
