Houses at Kingsmead

What is Vertical Tutoring?

Instead of students belonging to a tutor group consisting of only their own age group, the make up of the group is mixed across all year groups. Students from years 7 to 13 mix in the same tutor groups, with between two and four students from each year-group in a tutor group.

How does it work at Kingsmead?

  • Each House is led by a Head of House. Each House consists of students from Years 7 to 13.
  • Each tutor group consists of 17 to 18 students from KS3/4 plus 2 or 3 sixth formers.
  • Sixth Form students are attached to tutor groups and have leadership roles. There are other leadership roles for students in Years 7 to 11.
  • Students meet in their their tutor groups for their 15 minute tutorial period each day. Lessons would continue to be taught in year group classes as now.
  • Assemblies are House assemblies with year group assemblies when necessary e.g. work experience, careers related activities, sixth form recruitment, raising achievement activities and whole year group social activities.
