Extra-Curricular Activities

Kingsmead is committed to providing a range of activities for our pupils to become involved in outside the classroom. We believe that these activities help to develop interested well-rounded pupils, as well as a well-educated ones and help our young people to learn how to use their leisure time positively and productively.

Work for Charities

An important part of the experience of our young people is the development of awareness of those who are under-privileged, whether in the local community or the wider world. Various fund-raising activities take place during the year and all pupils are encouraged to help with these.

Camping and Outdoor Activities

Staffordshire has a number of centres equipped for outdoor pursuits: Kingsmead makes full use of these facilities. Our pupils have been involved in activities such as basic camp-craft, hill-walking, rock climbing, abseiling, caving, archery, orienteering, cycling, canoeing and sailing. These activity centres are also used for environmental and field study courses to support the work done in subjects.

Theatrical Productions

Kingsmead has built up a reputation for successful musical productions, including 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat', 'Grease', 'Oliver', 'Calamity Jane', 'The Sound of Music', 'Bugsy Malone', 'Annie', ‘South Pacific’ and ‘The Pirates of Penzance’. These productions offer our pupils the chance to become involved either on stage or backstage. Many of our productions have involved over 100 pupils, most of whom will have had little or no experience.

Music

Kingsmead boasts a strong musical tradition and there are many opportunities for singers and instrumentalists. There are a number of groups in operation, the Junior and Senior Choirs, the orchestra and the recorder group. Every two years our orchestra embarks on a tour of a European country - Italy and Spain in the past. Instrumental tuition is available for those interested in learning a brass, string or woodwind instrument.

Sport

Kingsmead pupils have access to a wide range of sporting activities to enrich their PE lessons. There are many teams for both boys and girls which compete against other schools, or there are many sporting clubs which allow youngsters to get involved for fun.

There is a wide range of activities available after school and at lunch times.
