Homework
One issue that is important to our year seven pupils and parents is homework. All pupils will be set homework in the various subjects, and there will be a homework timetable. Homework is intended to fulfil a number of functions:
- to extend the work completed in school;
- to help the pupils to develop independent study skills;
- to practise and revise skills and knowledge acquired in lessons;
- to provide opportunities for extended research.
Homework tasks will vary: reading, written work, finding out, drafting work, copying up rough notes, collecting items for a lesson may all be set. Each activity is important and is intended to enhance the work completed in school. The amount of time needed to complete homework will vary from day-to-day. However, all pupils should spend some time each night completing work set (about 20-30 minutes per subject in year 7): this will be recorded in their personal organiser. Pupils are expected to make every effort to complete homework on time and to the best of their abilities. They should ask their teachers for help if they are in doubt.
